What is Phonological Awareness and
Why is it so Important?
Phonological Awareness is an early developing skill that is very important for reading and spelling development. It is critical that children have this foundation in order to begin learning to read any alphabetic writing system. Research shows that difficulty with phoneme awareness and other phonological skills is a predictor of poor reading and spelling development.
